Spring In Killington Vermont
Killington Vermont means the best Spring Skiing, Rock Star Moguls, and Vermont’s Sweet Season.
The calendar says spring arrives the third week of March. In Killington that means buds, boards and a virtual banquet of activities that bridge the seasons. And spring, of course, means maple sugaring and the annual Sugarhouse Tours. On the mountain, March usually finds us getting a little deeper into winter, while in the lowlands the first signs of green often make their appearances.
Typically, March is Vermont’s snowiest month, which rewards skiers and riders with powder days, and as the sun climbs ever higher over our majestic peaks, the moguls soften and we get what locals like to call “hero” snow. It makes great skiers and riders out of nearly everyone! In Killington, April is awesome, with events and activities for singles and families alike. Dining and lodging specials abound so everyone can afford a getaway to the mountains. Details on Awesome April 2010 will be announced after the first of the year.
Vermont Maple Syrup is a treat best experienced in the steamy warmth of a sugarhouse, the rustic buildings where sap from the maple tree is boiled down to maple syrup. It takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to produce a single gallon of syrup. The sugaring season lasts four-to-six weeks and Vermonters and syrup fanciers around the world depend on spring or the “flavor of Vermont.” Lots more fun facts about sugaring can be found at vermontmaple.org.
Whether it’s casting a mountain stream for a native Brook Trout, enjoying the first bicycle ride of the season or challenging yourself on the mountain, Killington in spring truly is a very, very sweet season.
